Dr. Jennifer Holmgren to receive BIO Award

July 14, 2015 - Dr. Jennifer Holmgren, CEO of carbon recycling company LanzaTech, will be presented the Rosalind Franklin Award at the 12th Annual BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology in Montréal on Wednesday, July 22.

The Rosalind Franklin Award is presented annually to honour an outstanding woman in the field of industrial biotechnology and bioprocessing. The award will be presented at Brent Erickson, executive vice-president of industrial and environmental at BIO.

Background
A special selection committee, of scientists and leaders in the field, chose Dr. Jennifer Holmgren for her commitment to the advancement of the field of industrial biotechnology. Today, under Dr. Holmgren’s guidance, LanzaTech is developing an alternative jet fuel from industrial waste gases using intermediates derived through industrial biotechnology. LanzaTech’s process, using steel mill waste gases at LanzaTech’s facility in China with Shougang, has been certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB). LanzaTech’s technology for producing fuel ethanol from steel mill off gases is ready for commercial deployment today.

The Rosalind Franklin Society is the sponsor of the 2015 BIO Rosalind Franklin Award.
