Company field-tests biochar equipment in Alberta

Nov. 21, 2016 - Innovative Reduction Strategies' experimental pyrolysis machine that creates biochar from wood waste is being field-tested at a Weyerhaeuser lumber mill in Drayton Valley, Alta.

The machine, which is called Ulysses Pyrolysis System, has been operating next to the Weyerhaeuser plant for about a month.

According to the company’s website the machine reduces large volumes of waste material (ex. sawmill wood residue, construction and demolition waste), to produce high quality biochar, and value-added charcoal for landfills. The machine also demonstrates the viability of pyrolysis for heat and power generation.
