University of Guelph develops biofibre flower pots

July 14, 2014, Guelph, Ont. – Flower pots developed with
biofibre are hitting the shelves of major landscape chain stores thanks to work
done at the University of Guelph.

According to an article from Atlantic Farm Focus, the flower
pots were developed by a team led by Professor Amar Mohanty, Director of the
Bioproducts Discovery and Development Centre at the University of Guelph.

The biofibres in the biocomposite pots are made from
miscanthus. The pots, which are made of recycled plastics and biofibres, are
now available at 33 Lowe’s stores in Canada as well as Kroger stores in the
United States.
