Mar. 26, 2012 - Slave Lake Pulp will received a $10 million subsidy from
the province to help complete construction of its $25 million plant to
turn waste into electricity.
According to an article in The Edmonton Journal, the plant plans to be open in 2014 and will process pulp waste from a nearby mill into biogas that will be used to generate up to 7 MW of electricity. This process will also help reduce the amount of solid waste released by the pulp mill, as well as decreasing its overall emissions.
"This announcement brings us one step closer to implementing a project
that will improve our mill's environmental performance and provide a
platform for the production of bioenergy," West Fraser chief executive
Henry Ketcham said in a statement Wednesday.
