Apr. 11, 2012 - The government of Denmark has announced that the entire
country plans to be energy independent in the year 2050 thanks to its
expansion of solar, wind and biomass energy.
According to an article on HydrogenFuelNews.com, the shift will happen quite quickly, with one-third of the entire country's energy demand being supplied by renewable sources by 2020, primarily due to the use of highly successful wind farms. The government has begin to invest in the usage of solar and biomass programs, with the hope that they can be on par with wind power performance.
However, there are a number of issues they must overcome - such as energy storage, especially with solar power.
That said, Denmark is not daunted and seems to be committed to such an ambitious goal.
