May 7, 2012, Oak Ridge, IL - The Oak Ridge National Laboratory will
receive a new gasification system to replace its current 64-year old
boiler system.
The new $60 million system will create enough steam heat to power the
equivalent of 18,000 homes from wood chips via Oak Ridge Forest Products, said Bob Baugh, director of the lab's
utilities division in an article with the Chicago Tribune.
The conversion will save an estimated $3.8 million a year in energy costs and plans to be operational within the next month or so.
