May 18, 2012, Fairbanks, AK - The Alaska Division of Forestry is seeking public comments on the
proposal of a 25-year timber contract with Alaska Power and Telephone
Company to provide woody biomass for a combined heat and power facility
in Tok, Alaska.
The proposal, entitled the Preliminary Best Interest Finding, study's the displacing imported fuel oil with locally available woody biomass for electricity and heat. According to an article in The Delta Discovery, preliminary findings support the long-term timber contract with Alaska Power and Telephone.
The Division of Forestry will hold a public meeting on the Preliminary Best Interest Finding from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 31st at the Tok School.
Copies of the Preliminary Best Interest Finding are available for review at DOF’s Fairbanks, Delta, and Tok Area Offices, at the Delta and Tok Community Libraries, and on DOF’s web site at http://forestry.alaska.gov/whatsnew.htm.
