to build at least two new, second-generation enzyme plants in Brazil to
help in the production of biofuels.
One plant will be located in the northeastern state of Alagoas, where Graalbio is building the country's first commercial-scale second-generation biofuels facility. Graalbio will purchase all of Novozymes production from that new plant.
The company is still deciding on the location of the second facility, but the plant will probably be located in Sao Paulo, where much of Brazil's ethanol industry is concentrated.
The company's enzymes help break down sugars from agricultural products. Earlier this year, Novozymes began selling the Cellic CTec3 enzyme, which decreases costs and increases yields in production of second-generation biofuels.
Novozymes already has a plant in Araucaria, where it produces enzymes for first-generation ethanol production.
