Biomass group supports Ontario’s Climate Change Action Plan

In a statement, the group noted: “Decarbonizing the economy takes more than one ‘magic bullet’ and the portfolio of action items described in the plan offer a nuanced and comprehensive approach to doing so. And one that will yield economic development and growth.”

But, the association added, it’s “concerned that bioenergy, particularly bioheat, and forest-based biofuels are somewhat buried in the Action Plan. While geothermal and solar systems are explicitly listed as technology options to be included in many of the action items, biomass and bioenergy are relegated to a few call-out boxes and a single reference in one Aboriginal-focused action item.”

In its statement, the Biomass North Development Centre said it will continue to advocate for the bioenergy sector, and will work with its members to develop recommendations that will be shared with the government.
