IEA Bioenergy releases global bioenergy report

Sept. 26, 2016 - Canada has no binding national or provincial targets regarding the share of renewable energy in gross final consumption, a report from IEA Bioenergy finds.


IEA Bioenergy released online this month its IEA Bioenergy Countries’ Report 23.09.2016. The report presents a summary of the total primary energy supply by resources and the contribution of bioenergy in the member countries of the IEA Bioenergy Technology Collaboration Programme.

The report found that according to 2014 numbers, 29 per cent of Canada’s total primary energy supply of renewable energy sources was biofuels and waste.

According to the report, Canada ranked fifth amongst OECD countries for public expenditures on energy RD&D as a percentage of GDP in 2012.
