German Pellets completes Langerlo purchase

January 21, 2016 — Wood pellet producer German Pellets has successfully completed the purchase of German utility Eon's Belgian 556MW coal-fired Langerlo power plant, Eon said.
German Pellets plans to convert the plant from using coal to wood pellets by 2017, the company said in December. The power plant is expected to consume 1.8mn t/yr of wood pellets.
German Pellets signed a share sale and purchase agreement with Eon in August. Eon had planned to convert the coal-fired plant into a 400MW wood pellet-fuelled biomass plant but decided in late 2014 to sell it instead.
German Pellets was not immediately available for comment.
