Feb. 17, 2015 - Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has sent out a request for indicative prices for advanced biomass fuel deliveries. The RFIP was issued on Thursday, February 12 and will close on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

OPG is seeking indicative prices for solid wood-based pellet fuel. The fuel will be used at OPG’s Thunder Bay Generating Station. Thunder Bay was converted to advanced biomass and commercial operation began January 16, 2015. Additional fuel supply is required for delivery to OPG in part by August 15, 2015 and be completed by October 15, 2015.

This RFIP is an invitation to Suppliers to submit indicative prices to OPG for Advanced Wood Pellet Fuel. This is a fuel pellet that has been manufactured from woody biomass with no additives. Its manufacture includes a heat treatment process that changes the characteristics of the pellet such that it can be stored and handled using the plant’s existing fuel handling systems.

The intent of this RFIP is to assist OPG to assess the market for wood fuel pellets and establish the Potential Proponents with whom OPG wishes to enter into discussions and potentially negotiate biomass fuel supply agreements.
