Resolute officially opens its Thunder Bay pellet plant

November 28, 2014, Thunder Bay, Ont. – Resolute Forest
Products has officially opened its wood pellet production plant in Thunder Bay.

The plant, which began producing pellets in October, will
provide 45,000 tonnes of pellets per year to the Ontario Power Generation plant
in Atikokan, Ont. as per its supply agreement with OPG.

The plant is located on the same site as the company’s
sawmilling operation in the northwest corner of Thunder Bay. That location is
also home to the FPInnovations Lignin Pilot Plant, the first of its kind in
North America.

Resolute is also looking at opportunities for development of
secondary markets for pellets in a partnership with the Fort William First
Nation.
