Alberta, Saskatchewan set to surpass Ontario in renewable energy growth

Alberta and Saskatchewan are poised to surpass Ontario in renewable energy growth.

According to the Canada Energy Regulator, Alberta is expected to see significant growth in solar power while Saskatchewan is more than tripling its wind power capacity. Ontario had made strides forward in renewable energy growth over the past decade since phasing out its coal dependency.

Overall, however, the two prairie provinces are still lagging behind Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, Manitoba and British Columbia which have been producing about 90 per cent of their electricity from renewables.
