Nov. 2, 2017 - For more than 100 years, biochar, a carbon-rich, charcoal-like substance made from oxygen-deprived plant or other organic matter, has both delighted and puzzled scientists. As a soil additive, biochar can store carbon and thus reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and it can slow-release nutrients to act as a non-toxic fertilizer.
April 3, 2017 - Bird Construction, as part of the Harbour City Solutions consortium, executed a contract on March 28, 2017 to design, build, finance, operate and maintain a biosolids management facility for the City of Hamilton, Ontario.

March 10, 2017 - Cool Planet is making its Cool Terra Engineered Biocarbon products more commercially available to growers in 2017, following impressive results in independent field trials conducted in 2016. Cool Terra products place long-lasting carbon in the soil which contribute to improved soil health and agricultural sustainability. The field trials demonstrated Cool Terra products can contribute to increased crop yields and more efficient use of inputs for growers.
Feb. 1, 2017 - Near the St. Lawrence River, a stone’s throw away from the Gentilly nuclear power plant, the old LaPrade mill in Bécancour, Que., has come back to life. In one of the old concrete pools designed to produce heavy water, Airex Energy is testing its unique torrefaction process. Their goal: develop a large-scale biochar technology made with forest biomass and agriculture waste.
