March 15, 2019 – Canadian Biomass recently toured CHAR Technologies' high temperature pyrolysis (HTP) plant in London, Ont. The company produces a range of biochar products, including SulfaCHAR and CleanFyre, through high temperature pyrolysis. CEO Andrew White gave us a warm welcome!
March 4, 2019 - In order to rescue ourselves from climate catastrophe, we need to radically alter how humans live on Earth. We have to go from spending carbon to banking it. We have to put back the trees, wetlands, and corals. We have to regrow the soil and turn back the desert. We have to reverse the flow of greenhouse gases and send them in exactly the opposite direction: down, not up. A practice unlocked centuries ago points the way: transform impoverished soils into fertile black earth by converting organic materials into long lasting carbon.
Feb. 15, 2019 - New research from scientists at the University of Alberta is demonstrating how biochar can be optimized for agriculture, water treatment or even carbon storage.
Dec. 20, 2018 - Cutting edge waste transformation company Anergy has completed its first Canadian High Temperature Pyrolysis (HTP) plant, carried out in collaboration with Toronto-based CHAR Technologies Ltd and supported by the Canadian government.
Dec. 18, 2018 - Portuguese bioenergy start-up Futerra Torrefaçao e Tecnologia S.A. (Futerra Fuels) has started the construction of their first commercial scale torrefied pellet production plant in Valongo, Portugal. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 120,000 tons of torrefied pellets and 55,000 tons of regular industrial wood pellets per year.

Nov. 2, 2017 - For more than 100 years, biochar, a carbon-rich, charcoal-like substance made from oxygen-deprived plant or other organic matter, has both delighted and puzzled scientists. As a soil additive, biochar can store carbon and thus reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and it can slow-release nutrients to act as a non-toxic fertilizer.
