EU to limit use of food-based biofuels

May 29, 2014, Brussels, Belgium – Diplomats from the
European Union have reached an agreement to limit the use of food-based
biofuels amidst widespread criticism.

According to a report from Reuters, follows last year’s
stalemate that occurred when governments failed to agree on a proposed five per
cent cap.

The compromise, reached during a closed-door meeting
Wednesday “would set a 7 percent limit on the use of food-based biofuels in
transport fuel, compared with an overall target to get 10 percent of such fuel
from renewable sources by 2020.”
