July 24, 2017 - IGPC Ethanol Inc. (“IGPC”) hosted on Monday the Hon. Glenn Thibeault, Ontario’s minister of energy for a celebration recognizing the company’s $120-million investment to double ethanol production capacity at its facility in Aylmer, Ont. As a result of the expansion, by 2018 IGPC will produce at least 400 million litres of ethanol per year, making it one of the largest producers of renewable fuel in Canada.
July 19, 2017 - Finland-based St1 has announced it is investing in a new hydrogen manufacturing unit, which will be built in the St1 Refinery in Gothenburg, Sweden. This is the first step in a series of planned investments, which will enable St1 Refinery to start the production of renewable diesel in 2020. The construction work of the new hydrogen unit will start immediately and is estimated to be completed by the end of 2018. This hydrogen manufacturing unit investment project targets to enable an annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes of renewable diesel production. The value of the first stage of the project is 40 MEUR.
June 28, 2017 - Royal Dutch Shell plc, through its subsidiary Shell International Exploration and Production B.V., and SBI BioEnergy Inc. have reached an agreement granting Shell exclusive development and licensing rights for SBI's biofuel technology.
June 26, 2017 - Advanced Biofuels Canada (ABFC)has released the most comprehensive study to date of biofuel use in Canada. The study was conducted by Navius Research and follows a study last year by Clean Energy Canada and Navius Research on 2010-2014 biofuel use in Canada.

April 13, 2017 - A team of chemical and biological engineers at the University of Wisconsin–Madison has found a way to produce from biomass a valuable compound used in plastic production that they estimate could lower the cost of ethanol produced from plant material by more than two dollars per gallon.

April 5, 2017 - Butamax Advanced Biofuels LLC, a 50/50 joint venture between BP and DuPont, combining expertise in fuels with industrial biotechnology, announced the acquisition of Nesika Energy LLC and its state-of-the-art ethanol facility in Scandia, Kansas, on April 3. Butamax will now start the detailed engineering work to add bio-isobutanol capacity to the facility, while continuing to produce ethanol before and after adding this capacity.

March 23, 2017 - Since 2012, a small algal bioreactor has been operating quietly at St Marys Cement plant in Ontario, absorbing small volumes of C02 and other emissions from cement production to grow microalgae. In 2016, the small pilot project graduated to a full demonstration facility that is capable of churning out up to 50 kilograms of dry microalgae each day, offsetting nearly 100 kilograms of C02 emissions daily.
