Alberta to start coal phase out in 2018?

April 4, 2016 - The president of the Coal Association of Canada, Robin Campbell, stated that Alberta will begin phasing out coal in 2018, not the mandated 2030, according to a recent article in the Financial Post.

In the article, Campbell said that the phase-out will start in 2018, the year the provincial government will begin imposing a $30-per-tonne carbon tax on emissions (up from $20-per-tonne in 2017),  and that the tax will hurt small towns that have economies based around coal mines and their associated power plants.
