Canada pledges to reduce its methane emissions by 30%

Canada is aiming to slash its methane emissions by 30 per cent, joining 30 other countries pledging to achieve the same goal.

The 31 countries making the pledge represent more than 60 per cent of the world’s economy. Methane is deemed to have a stronger warming effect than carbon dioxide, scientists say, adding the reduction of methane emissions is the fastest way to slow down climate change.

Methane is the major component of natural gas, which is seen as a bridge fuel in transitioning to renewable energy.
