Nov. 15, 2017 - The export of Canadian wood pellets nearly doubled between 2015 and 2016 according to the National Energy Board.
A 46 per cent jump over the year was in response to growing global demand for biomass-fired electricity generation to replace coal-fired power plants.
The majority of demand is from the U.K, which accounts for 70 per cent of the exports.
Annual exports have increased by 73 per cent in the last five years, from nearly 1.4 million tonnes to nearly 2.4 million tonnes, making Canada the second largest pellet exporter after the U.S.
