CHAR Technologies is beginning a front-end engineering and design (FEED) study to develop a high-temperature pyrolysis system to convert rice husks into green hydrogen.

The company plans on using its existing biocarbon facility in London, Ont., to determine the technical and commercial feasibility of using rice husks to generate biocarbon and green hydrogen.

The term “green hydrogen” refers to hydrogen produced from renewable sources instead of fossil fuels. There is a growing interest in the use of green hydrogen as a transportation fuel, to generate electricity, and for heating.
