China adds massive biomass capacity in 2011

Oct 8, 2011, Anyang, China – Biomass power generation has exploded in
2011, according to Charles, a sustainable energy blogger on
www.biomass-energy.org.

In only five years, China has come a long way in generating power
from biomass energy sources. The country’s first biomass power plant
came online only in December, 2006—the RMB 340 million Shanxian plant in
China’s Shandong province. Since then dozens of other facilities have
been commissioned. Fed by government subsidies, 2011 will likely be China’s most active in the expansion of its biomass power generation capacity. The website China New Energy Power Grid (in Chinese) lists 62 such ongoing projects in only the first nine months of this year, totaling no less than 700 megawatts.
