Cochrane hopeful for restart of cogen plant

Jan. 26, 2017 - Officials with the Town of Cochrane in northern Ontario expect a nearby idled biomass cogeneration facility will be up and running as early as the summer, providing energy to the local power utility as opposed to the provincial grid.

The plan to restart the Northland Power facility requires the province to amend a regulation that requires power facilities to sell to the provincial grid. Mayor Peter Politis told the Timmins Press talks are progressing. 

If the plan moves forward, the facility will consume more than 100,000 tonnes of wood waste from the local lumber mills.
