Could Site C lead BC Hydro away from pursuing bioenergy?

Dec. 29, 2017 - With BC Hydro's Site C Clean Energy project coming underway in northeast B.C., some are worried the project will drive BC Hydro away from pursuing bioenergy goals.

 

One of those people is Quesnel, B.C. Mayor Bob Simpson, who says he is worried BC Hydro won’t need as much biomass from the lumber industry and may cut contracts with companies that produce electricity from biomass. 

The Site C project will provide a third dam and hydroelectric generating station on the Peace River to produce about 5,100 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity each year, according to the project overview.
