Cuba set for major investment in biomass power

April 11, 2014, Havana, Cuba – Cuba is set to invest up to
$1.7 billion for up to 19 biomass power plants across the country.
According to a report from the Cuba Standard, State sugar
holding company Azcuba will lead the project to construct the biomass power
plants at sugar mills and existing power plants throughout Cuba.

The end result will be the creation of 765 megawatts of
electricity primarily from bagasse, a by-product of sugar production.
