A Fort Frances, Ont. town councillor says government investment in the private sector needs more protection in the wake of the demolition of a biomass boiler at Resolute’s former mill.

The facility was a $90-million project for which the Ontario government contributed $23 million. Coun. Douglas Judson said the facility was one of the largest industrial investments in the region, involving millions of dollars in taxpayer money, but is being sold for scrap after only 12 years of operation.

Closure of the mill was announced in 2014, and the Ontario government initially said its contribution was to be repaid. Demolition of the facility began last year.
