Waste to energy low-hanging fruit

Feb. 3, 2015 - To use of waste for energy is a possibility in all countries. This is truly a low-hanging fruit. Instead of taking waste to landfill, it must be recycled and used for energy, to produce heat, electricity, or transport fuels. Modern combustion and cleaning methods guarantee that this can be done without negative effects on the environment.
Nordic Baltic Bioenergy Conference will present state-of-the art technologies for waste to energy April 14-15, 2015 in Riga, Latvia.
Susanne Ekendahl from SP will present a research project for biomass production from algae using waste water and flue gas for nutrients and as a carbon source at a pulp factory. Better use of industrial waste and residues offers great potential, not least in the forest industry.
Simon Jansson from Ragn-Sells Miljökonsult will give an overview of technologies for waste combustion in CHPs. He will present current projects, including fuel preparation in Västerås, Sweden, and a case study from Ukraine.
Per Lindgren from Götaverken Miljö will present state-of-the art technology for flue gas cleaning at waste plants. Using the right combustion methods and cleaning reduces emissions of dioxins and other pollutants to extremely low levels.
