Environmentalists sue EIB over biomass power plant loan

Jan. 14, 2019 - Environmental advocacy group ClientEarth is suing the European Investment Bank (EIB) over a $69-million loan to build a biomass power plant in Galicia, Spain.

A statement from ClientEarth says the EIB went against its renewable energy financing criteria, and refused to review its loan decision, according to a report from Bloomberg.

“Despite using public money, the EIB provides only minimal information about its funding decisions, and refuses to subject those decisions to the scrutiny required by EU law,” Anna Heslop, a ClientEarth lawyer, told Bloomberg.
