Oct. 11, 2016 - Fanshawe College has begun construction of its new biotechnology research facility, the Centre for Advanced Research and Innovation in Biotechnology, in London, Ont. The new centre will advance biotechnology, chemistry, and environmental technology programs through research and innovation with industry collaborations and partnerships.

Deb Matthews, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development, was joined by London North Centre MP Peter Fragiskatos at Fanshawe College last week to celebrate the start of construction of the new facility.

“Our government is proud to support this important project to give Fanshawe College students access to renewed facilities that will advance biotechnology, chemistry, and environmental technology programs through collaborative research with industry partners,” Matthews said.

The overall cost to complete this project is approximately $9 million, and includes $4 million from Canada’s Strategic Investment Fund, $2.2 million from Ontario, and $2.8 million from Fanshawe College.

The investment from the province and the federal government will allow Fanshawe College to refresh its existing building to include a new Centre for Advanced Research and Innovation in Biotechnology. Site work and demolition is underway.

“Fanshawe’s new Centre for Advanced Research and Innovation in Biotechnology will allow the College to prepare graduates for relevant and rewarding careers in biotechnology, while providing space for students to collaborate on research projects with industry partners,” said Peter Devlin, president of Fanshawe College. “The Centre will also have modern lab space for our senior students to work on projects in an independent environment. We thank the federal and provincial governments for their continued support of Fanshawe College.”
