September 24, 2013, Hantsport, NS – A proposed biomass
project in Nova Scotia will go forward now that the necessary agricultural land
to grow elephant grass has been secured.
The 10MW plant, owned by Pro Farm Energy in Ontario, will
use hundreds of acres of elephant grass as the feedstock. Securing the needed
land for the project had been delayed after complications arose regarding the
closure of the Minas Basin Pulp and Power Co. Ltd. in Hantsport.
