Feds reveal plan to phase out coal

Nov. 21, 2016 - The federal government's plan to end the use of coal-fired electricity across the country by 2030 will include exceptions for some provinces if they reduce emissions elsewhere.

Environment Minister Catherine McKenna released details on the phase-out plan Monday. The plan accelerates the current deadline for Canada’s four coal-burning provinces to either adopt technology to capture carbon emissions or shut down the plants.
