March 1, 2014, Selby, UK - The Spencer Group, a specialized engineering company, has completed the first part of a £150m ($300 million) investment in biomass handling facilities on the Humber River to transport wood pellets to a Drax power plant.

According to a report in Materials Recycling World, the completed 50m-tall silo is part of a 15-year contract between Associated British Ports and
Drax Power to transport sustainable biomass to its power station at
Selby. Approximately one million tonnes a year of biomass wood pellets from the United States and Canada will be stored in the
facility before being transported by road to Selby. The silo can
store 1,800 tonnes of wood pellets at any one time and is filled by 60
truckloads of biomass over three-hour periods, twice daily, loading at
the rate of 600 tonnes per hour.
