Forestry presents many opportunities for biofuels, new projects, employment

The forestry industry has an opportunity to decarbonize industries relying on other fuels and turn them on to biomass and biofuels derived from wood waste, the president and CEO of the Forestry Products Association of Canada (FPAC) says.
Speaking Tuesday to the Timmins, Ont. Chamber of Commerce, Derek Nighbor said if such opportunities are to be realized, certainty must exist to know where operations can happen on the land base, “knowing that we are going to have access in a sustainable way to harvest,” he was quoted in The Sault Star.
More than 140 innovation projects are ready to go across Canada, valued at about $1.5 billion. Opportunities also exist in forestry for Indigenous people, women and new Canadians, Nighbor said.
