French coal plant to switch to biomass in 2023

A 1.2GW coal-fired plant in Cordemais, France, is set to transition to biomass and could begin operating in winter 2023.

According to Argus Media, the “Ecocombust” project was relaunched in a meeting on January 14, after the French utility EdF stopped the project in July 2021 due to high costs and the “loss of a strategic partner.”

The union CGT has said the project could reduce CO2 emissions by a fifth starting next winter.
