Global demise of coal too slow to meet climate targets: report

March 28, 2018 - A new report from environmental groups says the plans to halt coal power plant construction in China, the U.S. and India are not enough to meet international climate change goals.

The report by CoalSwarm, Sierra Club and Greenpeace came out on March 21 and projects that the decline of coal will not match the decrease in temperature called for by the Paris climate accord.

Andy Roberts, global coal research director for the consulting firm Wood Mackenzie, told the Associated Press, “There is no way that we see right now that you can hold to a two-degree centigrade limit like scientists want us to if coal is in the mix.”
