Oct. 13, 2009, Winn, Michigan – The new Morbark Quick Switch grinder-to-chipper
conversion kit is now available commercially. Quick Switch, available for
Morbark track and rubber-tire horizontal grinder models 3800, 4600, 4600XL, and
6600, makes it possible for current grinder owners to produce a marketable chip
by simply modifying the hammermill of their horizontal grinder. The design of
the Morbark grinder-to-chipper conversion kit allows an average conversion of a
grinder to a chipper in less than three hours.

With one machine now capable of producing either chips or mulch, Morbark grinder owners
are afforded opportunities for significant diversity without the need to purchase
a second machine.

“This is a tremendous innovation for our customers,” remarks John Foote, vice president
of sales and marketing at Morbark. “The Quick Switch’s ability to change from
grinding to chipping and back creates opportunities for horizontal grinder
owners by giving them new markets to supplement their grinding operations. It
is an ideal solution for anyone involved in, or wanting to be involved in,
supplying biomass fuel.”

“We expect the average conversion to be under three hours depending on the overall
maintenance and condition of the mill,” remarks Gary Bardos, vice president of manufacturing
at Morbark. “We have been able to produce very high-quality fuel and pellet
chips during beta testing in the field. These mills will produce a chip between
5/8 and 3/4 inch, with some level of control toward reducing the size through
managing the feed rates,” Bardos added.
