Growing demand for electric vehicles could lessen future of canola as biofuel

Canola as a biofuel in diesel may address compliance with cleaner fuel standards, but the long-term future for canola may be lessened by a growing demand for electric vehicles.

A clean energy expert says it’s difficult to predict the future for canola in biofuel when companies such as General Motors have pledged to become all-electric by 2035.

About 500,000 tonnes of canola are being used in Canada for biofuels.
