Heatlocal.ca launches to offer wood heating information and resources

Aug. 3, 2017 - The website www.heatlocal.ca was recently built and launched as a new initiative to further Canadian knowledge about the benefits of heating with wood products.
Biomass as a whole in Canada is a giant economy and those of us involved with it have a good understanding of how using our renewable natural resources can benefit our economy and the environment. And yet modern heating with wood pellets, wood chips and firewood gasification remains on the fringe while renewable energy attention is focused on solar, wind and geothermal. Changing just five per cent of our country’s heating from fossil fuel to renewable wood will add thousands of jobs and eliminate thousands of tons of new carbon emissions.
Heatlocal.ca aims to separate wood heating from the general biomass umbrella by clarifying and championing the benefits of modern appliances. Small scale, 90 per cent plus efficiency, wood boiler systems are now widely available in Canada as is our supply of wood heating fuel. Heating with wood should be more than just a woodstove and Heatlocal.ca wants to start that national conversation.
The website is in its infancy and is in the process of building relationships with supporters and invites any, and all wood product market participants to join as supporters. Since the site is a collaborative effort, there is much capacity to post related information on modern wood heating, forest sustainability, equipment supply, heating how to’s and more.
