HTEC, West Fraser Mills receive funding for cleantech projects, research

Photo: Annex Business Media. B.C.-based HTEC and West Fraser Mills have received federal funds to aimed at advancing product development and commercialization of innovative forestry products.
The funding through the Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT) program was announced at the BC Natural Resources Forum in January.
HTEC is receiving $10 million to operate a renewable hydrogen production facility at the Harmac Pacific Pulp Mill in Nanaimo, B.C., producing clean hydrogen by electrolysis.
West Fraser is receiving $449,000 for two studies its conducting in Quesnel, B.C.
West Fraser’s Quesnel River Pulp facility project is exploring market opportunities for Propel, a plastic biocomposite made from cellulose that has the potential to replace traditional petroleum-based plastics.
A second project with the City of Quesnel is evaluating the feasibility of a district heating system using recovered heat from the Cariboo Pulp and Paper Mill.
