Nov. 17, 2010, Madisonville, KY – Doesn’t
everyone dream of lowering their monthly heating bill? The Bio-Burner biomass
burner/boiler can help this happen. The Bio-Burner is a multi-fuel, multi-day
burner/boiler with a universal feed system. Heat energy is created by burning
non-traditional biofuels (dirty fuels, fine dust products, crop stover, etc.)
and traditional biofuels (corn, wood chips, pellets, etc.) in the same unit.
Designed and manufactured by LEI Products in Madisonville, Kentucky, the
Bio-Burner is made to use locally produced fuel for the lowest cost and highest
value to the end user. The core design of the Bio-Burner is a foundation for
future technology in creating micro combined heat, power, and cooling.

The Bio-Burner product line meets
indoor/outdoor and gas UL/CSA safety standards and EPA Phase 2 emissions
requirements. It includes biomass burners rated at 100K, 250K, and 500K BTUs,
fuel processors, flash dryers, and delivery systems. The 2010 featured
Bio-Burner product is the BB-100, a 100K-BTU (29-kW) biomass burner/boiler for
home or light commercial use. The Bio-Burner has a multi-fuel design that
allows the use of a broad range of fuels such as woodchips, sawdust, pellets,
corn, crop stover, oats, soybeans, and more, all from the same feed system. The
multi-day fuel tank holds enough fuel to run for an extended period of time
with the added reassurance of a back-up gas system.

“Being involved in the wood industry for
over 25 years, I saw the need for utilizing the mounds of fine sawdust created
by band mills and began working on a sawdust burner. The Bio-Burner evolved
from that idea,” says Scott Laskowski, owner of LEI Products. It was developed
with the input of Hans Duerichen, PE from Smithers, British Columbia, who is
senior project engineer at LEI Products and has previous experience designing
wood burning stoves.

The Bio-Burner has a wide range of
applications as an environmentally friendly, economic producer of heat. Just as
the list of burnable bio-fuels is growing, so is the list of consumers that
would benefit from this technology. Homes and businesses are the key markets,
but other applications are surfacing: greenhouses, wood drying kilns,
workshops, poultry houses, ice rinks, biofuel processing plants, and community
district heating such as housing sub-divisions, apartment complexes, and Native
American communities. These applications and more are possible due to both the
variety of burner outputs available, as well as the option of using multiple
units in an application. The Bio-Burner can be used in three configurations:
1:1, in which one burner heats one structure; 1:2+, in which one burner heats
several smaller structures via an underground tube system; and 2+:1, in which
multiple burners in a modular or daisy chain system heat one larger structure
or facility.
