Nov. 24, 2010, New York, New York –
U.S.-based Verso Paper will begin burning additional biomass at its mill in
Bucksport, Maine, replacing coal in an existing boiler and fuelling a new 25-MW
generator. The company will begin construction on the $40-million project
before the end of 2010, with the aim of boosting total thermal energy
production from biomass by 43% at the Bucksport facility. The project will use
wood waste as its fuel.

The expansion of biomass fuel use at
Bucksport was approved by the state Public Utility Commission in September 2010
as part of its approval of a five-year contract for the electricity the paper
mill's new generating capacity will produce.
