May 26, 2011 – Local communities, First
Nations, and forest industry partners in the Marathon, Ontario, area have
proposed to establish the first local forest management corporation since
Ontario approved the new Forest Tenure Modernization Act. The community has proposed that the new body be called the
Nawiinginokiima Forest Management Corporation; nawiinginokiima means
"working together."

The corporation would be responsible for sustainable management of Crown
forests in the Big Pic, Nagagami, and White River forests in the Marathon,
Manitouwadge, White River, and Hornepayne areas. It would also sell and market
timber and negotiate the price of wood. It is expected to be operational by
April 2013.
