Maryland launches wood stove rebates

Apr. 25, 2012 – The Maryland Energy Administration is beginning a
$50,000 pilot program that will provide rebates to help residents with
the repayment of wood and pellet stoves.

According to an article from Biomass Power and Thermal, the program will begin later this year on a first come, first served basis. The rebates will consist of less than $500 (or approximately 30% of the installed cost) of the wood or pellet stove, said John Ackerly, the president of the Alliance for Green Heat.

"Throughout the US, rural low and middle-income families struggle to pay
their utility bills while generous rebates and tax-incentives flowed to
some of our wealthiest citizens to install solar panels.  A $3,000
pellet stove can displace as much fossil fuel as a $30,000 array of
solar panels," he said.
