Dalhousie University adds ORC system to biomass energy plant

Nov. 21, 2018 - The Dalhousie University Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S., has upgraded its biomass energy plant by adding an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) system.

The ORC system is the first of its kind on a North American university to burn wood fuel.

“We have been approached by other universities across North America because they’re interested in the technology itself and how we have implemented it on our campus,” David Gray, dean of Dalhousie Agricultural Campus, told the Chronicle Herald. “Our aspiration and our goal is to be a carbon-neutral campus. We have not set a target on that, but we’re certainly hoping within the next 10 years we’ll be carbon neutral.”
