Jan. 2, 2019 - Pulpmills in five of the nine major pulp-producing regions of North America have seen their wood fibre costs go up over the past year, according to the latest issue of the North American Wood Fiber Review. In the 3Q/18, average market prices for wood chips and pulplogs were highest in Interior BC and US Northwest, while pulpmills in the US South, Quebec, and the Maritime provinces had the lowest wood costs.

Dec. 20, 2018 - Valmet will supply automation technology to Pori Energia Oy's Aittaluoto biomass power plant in Pori, Finland. The target of the company's Aittaluoto 2020 project is to replace the outdated low-efficiency power plant processes, decrease the use of fossil fuels in energy production, and meet the operational requirements of the industry in the area. The modernization will decrease the CO2 emissions of the Aittaluoto power plant by 88,000 tons annually. Valmet's automation will improve plant availability and emissions control.
Dec. 19, 2018 - Dalhousie University’s Agricultural Campus (AC) in Truro, N.S., officially opened its renewed $26.5-million Biomass Energy Plant, made possible, in part, through the Nova Scotia Community Feed-in Tariff (COMFIT) program. The plant will not only meet campus thermal needs with energy, it will also provide Nova Scotia Power with electricity.
