RWE calls for switch to biomass at NL coal plants

Jan. 5, 2018 - German utility RWE is asking the Dutch government to consider converting the country's five last coal power plant to biomass instead of closing the doors. The government plans to shut down the plants by 2030. 

A move to biomass would reduce carbon dioxide emissions, while preventing stranded assets, Taco Douma, director of RWE, told media.

“We have to get rid of the coals, not the installations. Those are already standing there, so we better recycle them”, Douma told newspaper AD.
