September 23, 2014, Simcoe, Ont. – Norfolk County Council
has rejected a proposal from Norfolk Disposal for the construction of a biofuel production plant at its Waterford, Ont. waste management facility.

All but one member of municipal council turned down the
proposal, which would have converted household waste to biofuel.

Concerns over the proposal were based on the emissions from
the plant. The waste management facility is located near commercial and
residential areas, and Norfolk Disposal could not guarantee zero emissions from
the plant. Second, the technology that was to be used by Norfolk Disposal, a
system developed by Orion Eco Solutions, had not yet been proven to be emissions
free.

One member of council suggested that, once the technology
had been proven to be emissions-free, a new proposal from Norfolk Disposal
should be brought to council.
