Opposition to proposed biogas plant the work of a smear campaign, say proponents

Opposition to a proposed biogas plant near Maitland, Ont. – which resulted in Augusta Township Mayor Doug Malanka recently opting to not endorse the project – is the work of a single vengeful resident choosing to launch a smear campaign, the proposal’s proponents claim.
Officials from H&D Properties Ltd. told council the plant would be odour-free and state of the art, noting the majority of the “shower of emails” the mayor received in opposition to the proposal came from one person who bullied neighbouring residents with inaccurate information and lies.
Council has agreed to hire an engineering firm to conduct an independent study of the proposed plant and to investigate the concerns presented to the mayor.
