In the wake of the closure of the Northern Pulp mill in Pictou County, N.S., business consultant Richard Spinks sees a silver lining: the possibility for a pellet plant.

According to The Chronicle Herald, Spinks plans to present an investment proposal next week at the Forest Nova Scotia AGM, taking place Feb. 10 and 11. He will propose constructing a pellet plant, possibly at the former Daewoo site in Trenton, N.S., which has rail lines in place and neighbours Nova Scotia Power’s Trenton Generating Station. The plant would export pellets to Europe through the Port of Halifax.

Spinks told The Chronicle Herald that he believes the pellet plant could use as much wood as Northern Pulp did. His company, RMDE, is already working to put the groundwork in place for the plant.
