Make smaller briquettes

Sept. 3, 2010 – If pellets are too small and briquettes or pucks are too big, Bio Fuel
Quarters are just right. C.F. Nielsen has developed a patent-pending new
technology to split up a wood briquette into smaller pieces. The solution is
Bio Fuel Quarters. The briquette is broken in the die by a special piston and
separated at the end of a short cooling line. The equipment can be mounted on
an existing press such as the BP 5000 or BP 5500. This development is based on
inquiries for such a product from several customers.

Here are
some of the potential applications for the new product:

• Many
smaller boilers and gasifiers need a product smaller than an industrial
briquette or fuel puck and would benefit from a product bigger than a pellet –
Bio Fuel Quarters are ideal.

• Some
power companies complain that briquettes are more difficult to handle in their
feeding systems than pellets. Bio Fuel Quarters can be handled in most feeding
systems that can handle pellets.

• Bio
Fuel Quarters – especially in hardwood – will be an attractive consumer product
for barbeque as a clean alternative to charcoal and coal briquettes.

• Bio
Fuel Quarters are excellent as fire starters.

So far,
the equipment has been tested in the C.F. Nielsen plant. The next step will be
testing it together with customers who have a need for such a product.
